AIR CONDITIONING
Air Con Service

Contrary to popular belief, your car’s air conditioning plays an important function within your car - more than just keeping the inside of your car cool during warm weather. When working properly, air conditioning helps to improve the air quality inside your vehicle, filtering out pollutants, airborne bacteria and pollen. However, over time, the refrigerant gas in your car’s air conditioning system diminishes, especially when the system isn’t used regularly. Car manufacturers recommend carrying out an air conditioning service every two years in order to keep your air conditioning working at optimum level.

What's covered in a car air conditioning service?

-
Initial system test and leak check
-
Check system components such as hoses, belts, condenser, compressor, fans, electrics, etc
-
Check internal system controls, flaps, heating, etc
-
Recover any existing refrigerant from the system
-
Vacuum A/C system
-
Regas (recharge) A/C system with refrigerant to vehicle specific levels
-
Add A/C oil and UV leak detection dye
-
Leak test components
-
Full post re-gas system test

Initially, we take a look at all the A/C components, looking for any obvious signs of damage or leaks, as there is no point spending time, and money, trying to recharge a car when you can tell it won’t work when done. Not only that, to recharge a car with obvious signs of a leak is illegal. You’re not allowed to release refrigerant into the atmosphere.

Once done, and all seems ok, we will vacuum the system, which removes all refrigerant, some A/C oil and moisture etc. We’ll leave the vacuum running for at least 30 minutes to be sure the air con system is empty. On completion, we can check to see if the vacuum pressure holds. If not, it’s a sign of a leak as air is getting in. In which case we would try and find the leak.

Assuming all is OK, we can then recharge the air conditioning system with new, clean refrigerant, whether that’s the older r134a or the newer r1234yf, and add some oil with UV dye so if there is a leak we can physically see it and advise repair cost.

After we’ve added the right amount of refrigerant and A/C oil we can start the car, turn on the aircon and make sure it’s all working as it should, and measure the temperature coming out of the air vents. Then we check the system again for leaks.

Air Con Recharge (Aircon Regas)

An air con recharge, or regas, is different from a full air conditioning service in terms of what is done when working on the car’s A/C system.
Your car can lose refrigerant every year. It’s estimated that you can lose around a third of your coolant after three years. That is why you notice the car doesn’t get as cold as it should in the summer when you turn on the air-con. This is when you need to recharge or fully service your vehicles’ air con system.

This service is basically a top up of your air conditioning refrigerant. We will:

-
Check system for leaks
-
Determine correct refrigerant volume
-
Pressure check system
-
Recharge the Air-Con
-
Check again for leaks
We offer a recharge service for all makes and models of car, truck and motorhome, not only do we offer AC services for the common R134a refrigerant, we are also able to regas the newer cars that have R1234YF. Of course, should we not be able to recharge your car air conditioning, then we can advise on repair costs and carry out that repair if instructed to do so.

Car Air Con Fault Diagnosis and Repair

If your car air conditioning isn’t working as it should, or not at all, we offer an air con fault diagnosis, and repair if needed. Sometimes, when you get into the car, especially on a hot summer`s day, and put on the air con, nothing happens. You feel air coming out of the internal vents but it’s not getting cold. It may be that you just need an air con recharge or service but you could already have had that done recently so just need someone to come and take a look and advise what the problem is, and then fix it. That’s where we come in.

We will conduct a system of thorough checks and tests, be able to advise why your car air conditioning is not working as it should. It may be that you have a leak and have lost refrigerant, or that the compressor isn’t working, and if not, why not. Is there a fault with the pressure switch? Possibly it’s just a fuse or a relay. Could the compressor be noisy and if so why? Does it need A/C oil perhaps? We can also reset fault codes.

There are a whole host of reasons why the car A/C is not working as it should.
Once we’ve identified the problem, we can then advise on a solution, and subject to availability replace any parts needed, if requested to do so.
